Parallel Society (D/IRL/J)

Creative powerfull modern jazz

Parallel Society is the brainchild of german Dublin based guitarist and composer Jan Henrik Rau. The quintet is a project that features musicians from three different countries, Germany, Japan and Ireland.

Drawing inspiration from a variety of styles such as hip-hop, pop, grunge, classical, eastern music, ambience and modern jazz combined with powerful improvisation the music has a very personal touch and does not want to be categorised. The quintet interweaves electronic and acoustic soundscapes and there is a clear element of storytelling in each composition. Every song creates a different atmosphere with fascinating, mesmerizing and sometimes transcendental arrangements, surprising improvisations and truly original music.

The show at Alterna is part of their Europe tour with concerts in Dublin, Prague, Berlin and London.

This band proves how improvised music will keep it’s relevance, never minding genre limits and jazz expectations!

"The talent and intricacy in this EP alone is incredible; we need to hear more from this group!“

Red Keane - Founder of Jazz Ireland

Their sound invokes wonderfully deep ambiance while at the same time containing thoughtful lyrical lines. Exceptionally well constructed music with a genuine appeal to a broad church of jazz fans.”
